Your Day-to-Day:
Welding Field Engineers support and implement the Stone & Webster Welding Program. They are the project technical experts for all welding related Code and technical issues. As required they interface and coordinate activities with home office engineering, field construction supervision, and subcontractors. Additionally, employees are required to have general knowledge of construction processes along with a specific certified field engineering discipline. This position could be based in the field-based or the home office. Field assignments can be for extended durations; work is performed in outside field environment, frequent walking & climbing required; may have to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Working hours may routinely exceed 50 per week and during different shifts. The Welding Field Engineer works at the direction of a lead or manager, while developing those skills necessary to be able to work more independently.
  • Ensures the proper implementation and maintenance of the S&W Welding Program to meet the S&W Quality Assurance Programs, Regulatory, and ASME Codes
  • Reviews filler material purchase requirements, purchase orders, tracks filler material inventory and coordinates new orders with Procurement
  • Provides technical expertise and input to welding related Subcontracts when requested
  • Oversees and directs the qualification of welding procedures and the associated testing
  • Oversees and technical direction of postweld heat treatment (PWHT) and nondestructive examination (NDE) program
  • Supports the Site Welding Engineering Program Manager with the execution of all project welding activities in accordance with the S&W Construction Welding Program, regulatory, code and contract requirements
  • Review contract and design specifications to develop project welding requirements
  • Supports constructability reviews
  • Provides support to discipline Field Engineers (piping, component, structural) with the development of welding documentation (Weld Data Records and Weld Maps) for their respective construction work packages
  • Issues, and controls Welding Procedures, Welding Specifications, Process Control Documents, and all other technical welding documents
  • Supports the implementation of S&W Construction Welding Program software at project site and in coordination with corporate offices
  • Supports availability of welding documentation and technical support to Construction for execution of field welding activities
  • Oversees the project welder qualification program and welder status program from a technical perspective
  • Oversees the filler material issue program and providing technical direction when required
  • Provides consultation, technical responses, consultation, and support for welding related questions and issues presented by ANI, Code, and Regulatory bodies
  • Provides technical direction and oversight to craft supervision and craft when required


Minimum Requirements:

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:


• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology, or established equivalency
• 4 plus years of relevant experience; 8 plus year preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to meet the access criteria for to the company and client technology systems
• Ability to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear facility
• Knowledge and experience with advanced automated welding systems and processes
• Knowledge and experience with field machining and / or precision measurements for the installation of piping and equipment
• Implementation and use of electronic welding management system
• Participant or member of an ASME or AWS committee, sub-committee, or working group
