Instrument Repair Technicians have to work with three different kinds of equipment. The first set is the electro-pneumatic and pneumatic equipment. These devices include flow and temperature transmitters and devices that are started using diaphragms, bellows or pressure springs. The second kind of devices that they have to deal with is hydraulic instrumentation and this includes hydraulic valve operators, hydraulic valves and electro-hydraulic instruments. The third kind of instruments is electronic and electrical equipment. These include computers, recorders, transducers and ultrasonic devices

In this position an Instrument Repair Technician will:
•Receive and carry out work assignments, written or verbal, and work from sketches, prints, drawings, schematics or other information or instructions from plant personnel, including supervisor. Work with little or no supervision.
•Troubleshoot and repair industrial control circuitry (up to 120v), consisting of either relay logic or programmable logic controller (PLC), which interfaces to electronic instrumentation.
•Troubleshoot test equipment and auxiliary equipment such as, but not limited to, ultrasonic testers.
•Perform incidental mechanical, electrical up to 120V and other functions related to job assignments such as, but not limited to, lubing, aligning, replacing components such as bearings and gears, removing pipefittings from furnace for thermocouples, Ion tube and reinstall, use leak detectors, etc.
•Interface with appropriate technical personnel and suppliers on instrument repairs, troubleshooting, parts, etc.
•Maintain data on scheduled maintenance, repairs, calibrations, and adjustments, etc., on a personal computer.
•Evaluate, clean and lubricate, adjust, repair, and calibrate instrumentation equipment.
•Maintain records, manually or electronically, such as personal time, spare parts, computer-based records system, records of maintenance and calibration, files of instrument shop records, parts and service manuals, schematics, schedules and documentation required to meet plant procedure requirements, etc.
•Move related material, equipment and supplies as required to perform job function.
•Maintain an orderly stock of parts and supplies, including consumable materials and general use items (thermocouples and components, hardware and tools, etc.) used to perform job function.
•Keep tools, equipment and work area clean and in an orderly condition. Remove excess material and scrap.
•Conform to all safety requirements. Must use lock-and-tag system when appropriate.
•Disconnect and reconnect existing tubing, piping, hoses, gages, valves, etc., up to and including 2" diameter in all types of pipe and hose in conjunction with job function (excluding gas/acid).
•Remove and replace pressure gages, timers and flow sensor probes (for calibration).
•Tests accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers, radiation counters or detectors, and other recording, indicating or controlling instruments to locate defective components in system, using test equipment, such as pressure gauges, mercury manometers, potentiometers, pulse and signal generators, oscilloscopes, transistor curve tracers, and ammeters, voltmeters, and wattmeters.
•Records calibrations made, parts and components used, and inventory of parts on hand.

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:
•A journeyman certification in a relevant area or post-secondary degree in a relevant field.
•Five (5) years instrumentation / calibration experience, three (3) of which must be in an electrical industrial maintenance environment.
•Basic knowledge, variable frequency drives and SCR power controllers or equivalent.
•Experience in the calibration of temperature, levels, pressures, flows, and conductivity.
•Knowledge of Foxcom / Hart communication protocols
•Knowledge and experience with electronic controls, electronic devices, SCR, operational amplifiers, diodes, capacitors, transistors, etc.
•Experience using calibration instruments including process calibrators and standards.
•Knowledge and experience in the set-up and calibration of process meters and chart recorders.
•Experience using calibration software.
