We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Pipe Welder / Maintenance Mechanic in our Columbia facility.

In this position, a Pipe Welder / Maintenance Mechanic can expect to be responsible for the following:
Day to day welding includes, but is not limited to, piping systems, plate, tube, and structural shapes as specified by layout, blueprints, drawings, welding procedures, work order, etc. Majority work performed is pipe welding; require to pass a 6g pipe test on ½” heavy wall and also 2” pipe is required to certify. Must be able to demonstrate basic mechanical skills in welding, pipefitting and fabrication, construction blue print reading, maintenance related troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Should be able to pass ASME Section IX welder qualification tests subject to visual inspection, bend tests, tension tests and radiography.
    • Initial test will be on a 2” double extra heavy carbon steel pipe coupon in the 6G position using GTAW root and hot pass and completing with SMAW fill and cap.
    • Additional qualifications may include:
      • Stainless and aluminum GTAW (pipe)
      • Stainless and carbon steel SMAW (pipe)
      • Stainless and carbon steel GMAW (plate)
  • Examine welds for compliance with procedure and acceptance criteria

Additional Responsibilities may include:
* Work from drawings, sketches or verbal instructions from manager.
* Install, maintain, repair and rebuild shop machinery and plant equipment including pumps, motors, furnaces, blowers, conveyors, etc. to include furnace rebricking.
* Maintain, repair, and diagnose malfunctions on all mobile equipment such as hand trucks and forklift trucks.
* Perform metal burning, welding, soldering and brazing as required in assigned duties.
* Install and repair environmental-control systems, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
* Cut, assemble and install piping for all plant applications.
* Set up and operate equipment such as power saws and drill presses to make, repair and/or modify parts.
* Maintain equipment and leave work area in a clean and orderly condition.
* Strictly adhere to accountability, criticality, safety, security and hygiene procedures.
* Perform traceability function as required.

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:

* High school graduate or equivalent.
* Satisfactory performance in present position.
* Minimum of 5 years related experience or (2 years as a Maintenance Mechanic Level 23 or 3 years as a Mechanic C) or Welding School Graduates that have completed 400 hour standard welding courses plus 120 hour pipe welding course.
* Must successfully pass WorkKeys test requirements.
* Must be able to demonstrate basic mechanical skills in welding, pipefitting and fabrication, construction blue print reading, maintenance related troubleshooting.
* Must be able to climb and work off of scaffolding.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Should be able to pass ASME Section IX welder qualification tests subject to visual inspection, bend tests, tension tests and radiography.

  • Day to day welding includes, but is not limited to, piping systems, plate, tube, and structural shapes as specified by layout, blueprints, drawings, welding procedures, work order, etc.
  • Examine welds for compliance with procedure and acceptance criteria
  • Should have experience welding in nuclear or chemical facilities
  • Should be able to utilize hand tools to layout, fit, prepare and finish welds
  • Should be able to pass respirator qualification test
  • Should be able to perform fire watch duties
  • Shall be responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules
