In this position, a Plant Service Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, operation, inspection, service and repair of all heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment (excluding radiant heaters). This includes items such as hot water boilers (burners and vessel), process and plant chillers, manual and electronic control devices, and the Cooling Towers (excluding the lower level mechanical room). The Plant Service Mechanic also services the fire system and provides final installation on all heating and air conditioning equipment as required for start-up including thermostat wiring and mounting, but excluding any electrical or plumbing service connections for final operation.

Your Day-to-Day:
• Receive work assignments, written or verbal, work from sketches, prints, drawings or other instructions/information from supervisor.
• Move material, equipment, and supplies required to perform job function.
• Service and repair all heating and air conditioning equipment in the sanitary waste and industrial waste buildings.
• Maintain inventories/records pertaining to job function manually or electronically, such as control systems monitoring, personal time, spare parts, periodic maintenance, chemicals, oils, and filters, etc.
• Responsible for checking and maintaining operating condition of all heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment to insure reliable performance.
• Responsible for state-required documentation of refrigeration recovery and usage.
• Repair and maintain plant riser alarms.
• Monitor and control (manually and/or by computer) all plant air conditioning, heating and refrigeration equipment.
• Keep tools, equipment, and work area in clean and orderly condition. Remove scrap, empty containers and excess material related to job function.
• Install, service, and repair window, free-standing, and through-the-wall air conditioning units. Installation excludes creating an opening and/or wall penetration for the unit.
• Operate and monitor the Energy Management Software System.
• Conform to all safety requirements. Must use lock-and-tag system when appropriate.
• Assist other crafts.

Typical Tools and Equipment Used:
Hand and portable power tools, meters, gages, leak detectors, pressure and flow testing equipment, fork lifts (hand or rider), cranes, dollies, hand trucks, man-lifts, personnel carriers, portable and pedestal pumps--gas, electric, or air-operated, instrumentation and regulating equipment, acetylene heating torch, refrigerant reclaimer, computers, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
• State Journeyman Card or Associates Degree in HVAC
• Three to five years of relevant HVAC experience
• EPA Section 608 Certification Type 1 and Type 2 Certification required; universal certification is preferred
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs
