We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quality Engineer in Product Assurance Organization. This position will be located in our Columbia, South Carolina fuel fabrication facility.

In this position, the Senior Quality Engineer will be assigned as the primary Quality Engineer for our QC Receiving Department. In this role, the Principal Quality Engineer can expect to be responsible for the following:
  • Develop and implement Quality procedures in accordance with customer requirements, applicable standards, and government regulations to ensure Design requirements are met for both items received from external suppliers as well as those provided from internal sources.
  • Identify and direct corrective actions for successful resolution of component quality issues.
  • Communicate changes in design requirements and departmental QA procedures, plans and programs; and provide ongoing orientation, training and certification programs for Quality personnel.
  • Conduct and/or supervise close tolerance inspections with inspection equipment like gauges, calipers, micrometers, and comparators.
  • Plan and oversee training of group members
  • Determine product compliance with all specified drawings, specifications, and other requirements by inspection and/or review of supplied inspection and test documentation.
  • Follow engineering actions to resolve issues identified and evaluate the adequacy of proposed corrective actions to ensure compliance with applicable QA codes/standards.
  • Represent Westinghouse and provide input during Internal QA audits as well as audit and surveillance activities conducted by customers, government agencies, etc.
  • Review deviation notices, proposals, purchase order requisitions, quality plans, inspection records, NDE procedures, and other documentation to verify compliance with technical QA requirements for the design and manufacture of nuclear fuel components and assemblies. This would include participation as a Quality representative on Engineering Design Project Teams.
  • Identify and report conditions which could create safety hazards or malfunctions
  • Understand Nuclear Commercial Grade Dedication requirements and oversee related activities at Receipt Inspection
  • Understand and promote development of a Healthy Nuclear Safety environment both within the group and within the supply base.

Minimum Requirements:

*Minimum Requirements The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline, technical area or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 2-5 years of applicable professional experience in a nuclear or similarly regulated environment is required.
The following capabilities are desired:
  • Knowledge of US NRC Regulations such as 10CFR50 Appendix B and 10CFR21; and national consensus standards of quality assurance, such as, ASME B&PV Code, ISO, ANSI ASME NQA1 and Appendices.
  • Knowledge of welding processes and Non-destructive Examination (NDE) methods and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret design drawings including comprehension of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Strong computer skills including office software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate technical requirements and regulatory compliance information across language barriers.
  • Ability to speak directly with domestic and foreign customers, and supplier organizations to communicate both successes and programmatic deficiencies.
Occasional weekend work may be required
