This Safety Analysis Engineer will provide miscellaneous plant support functions to support the operations of the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS) in fulfillment of the Core Design & Safety Analysis function outsourcing arrangement between the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Company and Westinghouse Electric Company. These responsibilities require extensive knowledge of WCGS’s in-house safety analyses, maintenance of necessary qualifications in WCGS procedures and processes, and extensive knowledge of the Westinghouse safety analyses to be used to support the operation of the WCGS.

As a member of this team, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • The provision of transient analyses
  • Containment analysis
  • Core design
  • Nuclear fuel design

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:

• Sufficient experience and logic/problem-solving capabilities to apply advanced engineering principles and techniques to propose, direct, and integrate solutions to highly complex (possibly system level), loosely defined technical problems and to identify direct approaches for the successful resolution of significant technical issues. May be required to serve as lead expert within discipline for technical problem solving.
• Ability to perform assigned analyses related to the delivery of fuel reloads including fuel core and thermal hydraulic design, Chapter 15 LOCA, non-LOCA and containment transient analysis.
• Familiarity with NRC Regulations and requirements for safety analysis applications.
• Detailed knowledge of the WCGS customer organization and daily work practices in the area of fuel reload design, safety analysis, and core performance/reactor engineering.
• Detailed knowledge of both existing WCGS and Westinghouse safety analysis methodologies and the interface of the safety analysis methodology with the WCGS core performance, PRA and Operations groups.
• B.S. in nuclear engineering or similar degree is required. Advanced degree preferred.
• At least 2+ years of relevant experience is required, but typically 5-10+ is preferred
• Professional Engineer license (Kansas) is desirable (advancement toward obtaining KS PE is required).
• Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access at Wolf Creek Generating Station will be required.
