We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Weld Test Shop Supervisor.

The Weld Test Shop Supervisor supports the implementation of the welding program at the Vogtle 3&4 Project. Position may be days or nights depending on project needs and schedule.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Supervises and manages the day to day operation of the weld test shop: including but not limited to: Oversight and supervision of craft personnel performing initial welder/welding operator qualification, performing documentation, review and approval of welder performance qualification test records, tracking, ordering and maintaining weld test shop materials inventory including consumables.
• Performing destructive testing of weld test coupons and determining acceptance criteria for welder qualification tests.
• Interfacing with NDE contractor for required weld/ weld test coupon acceptance testing.
• Providing training on the site welding program to new welders including but not limited to indoctrination in filler metal control, WDS completion, WPS usage and welding control procedures.
• Providing oversight and coaching of welders performing re-qualification or retraining testing to correct and improve welding technique or weld quality issues.
• Performs final inspection and acceptance of non-safety related welding activities.
• In-process surveillance and oversight of all welding, including but not limited to: verifying compliance with code and procedural requirements of the site welding program, verification of welder/welding operator qualifications, WPS verification, review of weld data sheets, weld maps, general welding specifications, and all pertinent data in the work package that governs the weld being inspected.
• Update welder continuity
• Oversight of filler material issue and return at rod rooms including review of filler material issue slips to ensure proper completion of entries
• Coach production welders to correct technique issues.
• Providing technical direction related to welding activities, including directing that welding be stopped, welder qualification be suspended, or any welder be reassigned, or require re-qualification of any welder.
• Resolving WDS technical issues during review when called for inspections.
• Maintaining weld inspection or qualification test report database for tracking of weld test results, inspections, filler material usage and percentage of reject rate for each welder and supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

Basic Job Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years nuclear power or heavy construction/industrial welding experience.
• Experienced with specialized welding processes and post weld heat treat procedures
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a journeyman welder.
• Minimum 5-10 years' experience as a welding supervisor
• Welding experience with SMAW, GTAW, FCAW and GMAW processes.
• Experienced with the use of ASME and AWS welding codes and associated procedures.

Other Job Requirements:
• Experience in inspection of structural and piping welds.
• Must be able to secure unescorted access authorization to plant site.
• Experience with evaluation and resolution of project welding related problems.
• Experienced in the development of project welding requirements and plans.
• Must be able to physically perform the job duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, see and hear within legal limits.
• Must have basic computer skills in software such as Microsoft Office and be able to master use of welding management software such as Codeman for entry of welder qualifications

Preferred Additional Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree or Technical degree preferred
• Active AWS CWI Certification OR ASNT Level II certification in one or more NDE processes (VT/MT/PT/UT/RT)
• Significant experience with orbital and automated welding and pipe machining equipment and processes
